The whole Sligo Pallets Forest Rally Championship Team are gutted to hear today that our 2025 Opening Round, the much anticipated Donegal Forest Rally, has had to be postponed due to damage resulting from Storm Éowyn. We would like to take this moment to acknowledge the huge work completed to date by soo many people in Donegal MotorClub, especially COC Johnny Baird who has worked tirelessly in the past number of months to put together what was promising to be on of the finest Forest Rallies in the country. The Forest Championship Committee will now work closely with Donegal MC to find an alternative date for the event, and we will publish an update as and when we have one. The Statement from Donegal MC in Full; McCafferty's Bars Donegal Forestry Rally 2025 Notice of Postponement It is with regret that Donegal Motor Club announce the postponement of the 2025 McCafferty's Bars Donegal Forestry Rally, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 16th. Following consultation with Motorsport Ireland and other stakeholders, the club have taken the difficult decision. to postpone the event, owing to damage caused by Storm Éowyn to parts of forest complex where the event was to run. Speaking on the club's decision, Clerk of the Course Johnny Baird said; "As an active competitor, I wanted to try and ensure that the rally went ahead as planned, but following an inspection of our route with an engineer from Coillte, it became clear that it would not be safe to send competitors, officials, marshals, spectators into the forests in the coming weeks. We will work with Motorsport Ireland and representatives from the Sligo Pallets Irish Forest Rally Championship to find an alternative date to run the event later in 2025." Baird continued; "I wish to pay tribute to all the support I have received from Donegal Motor Club, our title sponsor McCafferty's Bars, all other sponsors, as well as the residents and businesses who had gone out of their way to welcome the rally back to the Donegal Town, Ballyshannon and Pettigo areas. I wish to thank Motorsport Ireland and Coillte for their support. To all the officials and marshals who had already volunteered their time for the event, a massive thank you. Finally, I want to thank the competitors who had entered the rally and shown their desire to compete in record numbers on our event. Just over two weeks out from the event, we had already exceeded the permitted number of starters. We hope to be able to announce a new date in due course and look forward to welcoming everyone back to Donegal."
