Finnish star Mikko Hirvonen has taken the Classic Rally record at Whare Flat - Pipping Estonian Markko Martin's 2017 time of 7:55.8 by 1.2 seconds to post a time of 7:54.6 and take the stage by 7.1 seconds over third placed Jeff Judd. The stage is being run in the downhill configuration. Second placed Dean Buist came in 1 second behind Judd, with Stewart Reid posting an 8:09.2 for fourth, and John Silcock a further 5.9 seconds behind in fifth. Fifth placed driver coming into the stage, Tim McIver was unable to finish Whare Flat after coming off the road 9.9km into the stage - agonisingly close to the end. This has allowed Karl Robinson's Bluebird Turbo into the top 5, with the Mazda RX7 of Reid just 3.3 seconds behind in a push for a top five position.
