In 2024, FIA Appendix J was updated, including Article 253/7.3.1, relating to the number of handheld fire extinguishers to be inside the car.
Appendix J – Art. 253, Article 7.3.1 || FIA Championships as from 01.01.2024 / Rally Cars:
"All cars must be fitted with two fire extinguishers in compliance with Articles 7.3.2 to 7.3.5 hereunder or with FIA Standard 8865-2015 (Articles 7.3.2 to 7.3.5 hereunder do not apply in the latter case)."
FIA Appendix K (Article 5.7.1) refers directly to Article 7.3.1 of Appendix J - Art. 253 for requirements on fire extinguishers.
EXEMPTION FROM FIA HISTORIC and FIA SAFETY DEPARTMENTS:
The above stated requirement for TWO handheld fire extinguishers from Appendix J DOES NOT APPLY to FIA European Historic Rally Championship events in 2024 (for all competitors using historic competition vehicles in compliance with Appendix K, with a valid FIA HTP).
The FIA Safety Department has granted an exemption to Historic cars for this requirement.
Only ONE handheld fire extinguisher in the vehicle is mandatory in 2024, alongside the FIA approved automatic fire system.
All fire extinguishers must be in-date and serviced correctly, in line with FIA regulations.
Please note that an official bulletin will be issued about this at Rally Costa Brava, and the Supplementary Regulations for all future rounds of FIA EHRC will include more details about this exemption to the above quoted article of Appendix J.
